The 2014 Radio-Coteau Las Colinas Sonoma Coast Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the western Sonoma Coast appellation. The 2014 vintage is a blend from three vineyard-designated, coastal Syrah sites: Cherry Camp, Timbervine, and our own Harrison Grade Estate. With a generous 32% whole cluster inclusion, the 2014 vintage of Las Colinas was bottled after a 17-month élevage in 12% new tight-grained French oak barrel and puncheon.

Production notes

The 2014 Las Colinas Syrah opens with delicate notes of dried black currants and Mission figs that give way to a complexly layered umami core. On the palate, it leans into its savory character, with elements of dried shiitake mushroom, white pepper, tamari, and black olive tapenade. Well-integrated tannins provide structure, while a fine thread of acidity lifts and carries the wine through an elegantly lingering finish. Marked by concentration and intensity in its youth, the 2014 Las Colinas Syrah is showing compelling earthy nuance with extended bottle age.

At bottling, we set aside a small amount of each wine, with the intention to cellar long-term in optimum conditions and release at a later date. Each hand-selected library wine is then offered when we believe it to be in a particularly beautiful drinking window.

“Radio-Coteau's 2014 Syrah Las Colinas is just as impressive as it was last year. Bright red and purplish hued stone fruits, leather, spice, cedar and tobacco give the wine its distinctive aromatic and flavor signatures. Las Colinas is a blend of fruit from several sites, but it is far from an entry-level wine. If anything, the 2014 needs a few years for the formidable tannins to soften. There is so much to like here.”
