2023 Savoy Pinot Noir

Anderson Valley

Tasting notes
On a stunning hillside vineyard located in the heart of Anderson Valley, Savoy’s Pinot Noir grapes develop intense flavor over a growing season lengthened by the cooling maritime influence that funnels through the valley. A complex patchwork of clonal selections, each block is organically farmed to its own specific needs. Hand-picked at night and trucked to the cellar in the early morning allows for optimum handling and whole berry integrity. In 2023, cooler weather throughout the year extended the growing cycle, with harvest arriving nearly three weeks later than previous years. In the cellar, we chose a modest 15% whole cluster inclusion, followed by a 16-month élevage in 30% new tight-grained French oak barrel and puncheon. With its elegant structure and savory edge, the 2023 Savoy Pinot Noir speaks to its Anderson Valley origins within the cool vintage context.
Production notes
The 2023 Savoy offers a graceful expression of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, balancing vibrant fruit with an earthy and herbal complexity. Crushed raspberry, Satsuma plum, and Morello cherry compote take center stage, set against sous bois undertones and a gentle thread of warm baking spices. Smooth tannins provide structured refinement, while hints of pennyroyal and brewed black tea add savory depth. Bright acidity imparts freshness and lift, carrying the fruit through a lengthy, energetic finish. Deliciously inviting at present, the 2023 Savoy Pinot Noir is also a promising candidate for the cellar, as time in bottle will only serve to deepen its broad appeal.

“The 2023 Pinot Noir Savoy is bright and effusive in the glass. Blood orange, mint, white pepper, chalk, dried herbs and pomegranate are front and center. This juicy, mid-weight Pinot offers tons of energy and vibrancy. The 15% stems are very nicely integrated. This should drink well with minimal cellaring.”
