2023 Las Colinas Syrah

Sonoma Coast

Tasting notes
The Las Colinas Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the western Sonoma Coast appellation. Comprised of a select blend of biodynamically grown Harrison Grade Estate and organically grown Dusty Lane fruit, the Las Colinas showcases the spirit of the vintage with graceful precision and offers both ageability and accessibility. With fruit from two Sonoma Coast vineyard sites, Las Colinas is driven by vintage, and the bold 44% whole-cluster inclusion we chose in 2023 is reflective of the measured pace of that year's ripening. Following fermentation, the 2023 Las Colinas enjoyed a leisurely 20-month élevage in neutral 500L French oak puncheons, setting the stage for present enjoyment or extended bottle aging for this snapshot of 2023 Sonoma Coast Syrah.
Production notes
A cool-climate sensibility runs through the 2023 Las Colinas Syrah, where dark fruit meets a savory, earthy core. Black mulberry, dark plum, and a touch of cassis lead the aromatic profile, accompanied by charming botanical notes of juniper berry and freshly-picked sage. On the palate, the fruit takes a quieter role, with dusty earth, woodsy spice, and a touch of monk's pepper emerging alongside an enticing umami complexity. Moderately grippy tannins provide a strong backbone without imposing, highlighting this coastal Syrah's youthful presence while suggesting considerable potential for evolution in bottle.

“The 2023 Syrah Las Colinas is a gorgeous introduction to the Radio-Coteau Syrahs. Rich, fruity and wonderfully forward, Las Colinas is such a delight. A burst of red-toned fruit, blood orange, chalk and dried herbs races across the palate. Finessed tannins and strong savory inflections from the 44% whole clusters frame the close.”
