Sonoma Coast

Tasting notes
Expressing the unique character of a cool climate Zinfandel on Goldridge soil, Radio-Coteau’s Sonoma Coast Estate vineyard resides on a sun-drenched coastal ridge top above the town of Occidental. The biodynamically grown Lemorel is a tribute to the pioneering winegrowing family, folks who not only planted some of the first coastal Zinfandel, but also built the old historic winery back in 1906, currently still in-use though retired from original intent. Planted in 1946, these strikingly gnarly old vines entered 2022 following two years of drought, producing lower yields with tight clusters and concentrated character. Following a 20-month élevage in neutral French oak, additional time in bottle has seamlessly integrated the fruit and tannins, lending an ease and approachability without sacrificing the Lemorel's old-vine intensity.
Production notes
With an alluring purple hue, the 2022 Lemorel Estate Zinfandel bursts from the glass with notes of fresh blackberry, wild blueberry, and ripe boysenberry. Layers of warm baking spices and earthy forest floor weave through the fruit, creating an inviting rustic element that gracefully complements the berry focus. The smooth mouthfeel is punctuated by lively acidity and framed by tannins that feel both abundant and remarkably supple. Having benefitted from additional time in bottle prior to release, the 2022 Lemorel is already showing the polish and harmony that make it irresistible to drink now, while offering a glimpse of its lasting cellar potential.

“The 2022 Zinfandel Lemorel Estate is another bold, immediate wine from Radio-Coteau. There's no getting past the wine's natural exuberance in 2022. Black cherry, plum, mocha, licorice, cloves and leather saturate the palate. Ample and explosive in feel, the 2022 is not at all subtle, but it sure is delicious.”
